Ivy League Case Study

Maya Magee

In the summer of 2020, we were thrilled to discover that all three of our Ivy League applicants had been awarded places. The Ivy League universities generally admit fewer than 10% of all applicants so this was an outstanding achievement for all students. One of our fortunate students awarded a place was Maya Magee, Maya started at Dartmouth in 2021, having deferred a year to accommodate Covid-19 restrictions.

I became interested in pursuing study in America after applying to be a part of Yale University’s Summer Programme, in the summer before my Upper Sixth Year. I was delighted to be accepted because thousands of students across the globe apply, but the course only has a 25% acceptance rate. The Programme was taught by Yale Professors, with seminars and lectures in blocks of different fields and subjects. It was amazing to study with so many different people with difference backgrounds an experiences. Over the whole summer students from 126 countries and all 50 US states were there

Mr Gordon Neill, Cranleigh’s Head of English, specialises in US University courses and is available for help and advice across all courses. Last year Cranleigh pupils started at Princetown, Michigan and Brown’s, as well as Dartmouth.

Over the whole summer, students from 126 countries and all 50 US states were there. I would encourage anyone interested in US study to try one of the many available summer courses before going. It was amazing to study with so many different people with difference backgrounds an experiences.
